Sign In to NE Free Legal Answers
When your account has been approved by the website administrator, you will receive a notification email. To get started you will go to NE.freelegalanswers.org and select “Sign In” at the top right side of your screen. After you enter your username (your email address) and password, you will automatically be directed to a page that lists all the questions that have been posted for lawyers to answer (the main queue).
The Main Queue
Questions use flags to let you know how long the question has been in queue.
- Red outline flags are questions posted longer than 10 days.
- Red filled-in flags are questions posted at least 25 days.
Questions not answered within 30 days will close automatically. The user will receive an email notification that the question is closed.
Viewing Questions in the Main Queue
You have three ways in which to view questions in the main queue:
- View all questions in the queue (default view)
- View questions posted 25 days or longer; click the “Importance” option under the “Sort” button.
- View questions by legal category; click the “Filter” button.
Viewing Questions in Your Personal Queue
To view questions you selected to answer, click “Home” on the Menu. This allows you to view all questions removed from the main queue to your personal queue.
Posted Questions
Each question lists a Category and a Subject. Categories are pre-determined by the state site administrator. Visitors to the Website (Users) use the “Subject” line to state, in their own words, the nature of the legal question (e.g., divorce, eviction, bankruptcy). The Category and Subject functions help you quickly decide which questions you want to review and answer.
Selecting Questions You Want to Answer
You can quickly read the first lines of each posted question by clicking the "Preview" button. If you want to view more details, click “Subject” which will take you to the question detail page. To select a question you want to answer, click the “I want to answer the question” button at the bottom of detail page. If you later decide you do not want to answer the question, click “I want to return this question” to return it to the main queue. You can choose to answer a question immediately by clicking "Answer Now" or answer the question later by clicking "Answer Later".
Answering the Client’s Question
Once you have taken a question to answer, you will be able to reply to the client and provide an answer or ask the client for additional information. The client can upload documents or photos for you to review. If you ask the client a question, you will receive an email when the client responds and a prompt to log back into the Website to respond. Please respond within 3 days of taking a question. If you fail to respond within 3 days, the question will be moved back into the main queue. Remember, the client will not know your identity unless you choose to provide it.
Subscribing to a Specific Category
If your area of practice is specialized and you only want to answer certain types of questions, you can subscribe to a Category. If you subscribe to a Category, you will receive an email notification each time a question in that particular Category is posted.
To subscribe to a Category (for example, immigration):
- Click the “Manage Subscriptions” tab at the top of the screen.
- Scroll down to the Category you are interested in and click on the red circle.
- When the red circle changes to a green check mark, you have successfully subscribed to that category.
You may also choose where you want to receive subscription emails. To change the subscription email from your username email:
- Click on your email address next to the green check mark.
- Enter the email address for subscriptions.
- Click the “save” icon to save the subscription email address.
- You can unsubscribe to a Category any time.
